The Desert in Us

To Live in Wonder

The Desert in Us

  26 March 2022,

Saturday, 9:00 am – 12:30 pm.

It is no mystery that Jesus went out to the desert and spent time in prayer and contemplation. The imagery is used many times to symbolize nothingness. In his book, “Everything Belongs” Richard Rohr says “The desert is where we are voluntarily under stimulated. No feedback. No new data. That’s why he says to go into the closet. That is where we stop living out of other people’s response to us. We can then say, I am not who you think I am.” During this Lenten season we will spend time with desert imagery while we move through the temptations of life experience with contemplative prayer, guided meditation, quiet conversation, and journaling. Refreshments and materials provided.

Cost: $50 (seniors/students $40)

An Empty Vessel

To Live in Wonder

The Desert in Us

   23 April 2022,

Saturday, 9:00 am – 12:30 pm.

While a cup and a vessel are both meant to hold something, the difference is that a cup is meant for drinking and a vessel for transporting. With each, they will eventually need to be emptied out so that something else can be put into them. We cannot expect them to stay full without some emptying and refilling. Join us as we consider the contemplation of the empty vessel. A spiritual life is all about journey and transformation, emptying out and refilling.  A spiritual life moves with us and carries us through the joys and sorrows of life through our deepening of relationship with God. What is needed in this vessel and what needs to be emptied and why and how? Contemplative music, quiet prayer, conversation creating a vessel of clay and meditation will fill our time. Refreshments and materials provided.

Cost: $50 (seniors/students $40)

To Live in Wonder

  21 May 2022,

Saturday, 9:00 am – 12:30 pm.

There is nowhere, where God does not exist and to know this and live in this is to live a life of wonder. However, we live in a world where everything moves so fast and furious, and everything must have a rational explanation; something that gives a concrete understanding. We like the facts.  To live in wonder, we learn to reject these things and move deeper and closer to the mystery of God. This takes time, patience, and practice. What works and doesn’t work for you? We will spend time in conversational sharing of techniques we use and some that are proven to help. Readings, a meditative walk, Taizé music, contemplative prayer will offer us moments to discover some of our own wonder. Refreshments and materials provided.

Cost: $50 (seniors/students $40)

Finding Our Center

Finding Our Center

To Live in Wonder

Wednesday, 9 March 2022,

10 am – Noon ON ZOOM

  “

We do not find our own center; it finds us.” Says Richard Rohr and he goes on to say, “We do not think ourselves into new ways of living. We live ourselves into new ways of thinking.” He says that we really don’t know what it means to be human without knowing God. What does that mean to you? What is it you do to get to your center and what does that mean for you? Sacred quiet meditation, prayerful reflection, soulful readings and conversation about both center and circumference .

Cost: $25 (seniors/students $20)

God Waits For Us

Finding Our Center

Always On My Mind

Wednesday, 13 April 2022,

10 am – Noon on ZOOM

There are many stories and examples in the Bible of God’s people calling on and waiting for God to show up in one form or another. But scripture also tells us that there are over 100 passages where it speaks of “God waiting for us.” God is the constant and we are more often the ones who walk away or ignore God moving in and through our lives. We want God; however we want to control the narrative as well; we want God to show up the way we want God to show up and can miss the reality that God is already here and always has been. Come share some sacred conversation and a bit of your story about waiting for God. There will be music, prayer, sacred readings discussion and contemplative prayer to help us with this tender topic.

Always On My Mind

Wednesday, 11 May 2022,

10 am – Noon ON ZOOM

“In mature religion, the secular becomes sacred. There are no longer two worlds. We no longer have to leave the secular world to find sacred space because they’ve come together.” - Richard Rohr

The thing is that it takes dedication and practice if you truly desire a close relationship with God. Marcus Borg tells us that at the heart of Christianity is God. He tells us that just as important is, “how we see God and how we think of God; God’s relationship to the world, and God’s character – matters greatly.” The conversation becomes important as to what is on our mind and in our heart when it comes to what we want and need from God. Join us as we explore the concept on God on my mind and in my heart.  Music, centering prayer, storytelling, while we construct a vision board of our own will fill our time together.
